4.2. The Sea



This group consists of questions about the sea as well as questions about the winds, the tides, and navigation. The answers will show a great variety of words in some cases. However, these are largely due to personal experience and local conditions of the sea rather than regional dialect variations. Hence, the tables of answers are, for the most part, left uncommented.
Questions 21, 23, 30, 31, 35, 44 are omitted as they did not yield results worth presenting.

In North Berwick informant IV answered with "sand or rock" and informant V with "sand or mud". I have no answer to this question from informant XIV.
