Crossfish seems to be limited to the coastline south of the Firth of Forth (East
Lothian and Berwickshire) up to the Scottish-English border in the east, but it
also occured on the west coast of England (Lancashire and Cheshire) and
Scotland (Dumfries).[2]
Corsefit is probably a variant form
of crossfit with a change of [r ] to
[r]. Crossfit
is listed in SND as the meaning of
"starfish". Informant XII gave no answer to this question.
