4.1.11. Blade (question 18)
Informant XIII gave no answer to this question.
EDD lists spoon as the meaning of oar.
4.1.12. Bail out (question 20)
The bilge-water, which is always present at the bottom of a boat, is usually pumped out with a hand pump or a motor pump. Sometimes, this is also done by means of a bailer or a bucket. The answer to this question was either bail or pump (it out). In West Haven, the informant (XIV) called the instrument which is used to "pump out the water" a duddler. |
